Raised in Philadelphia, Rodney began his musical
journey at the age of 8, trumpet securely in tow. Starting with his
participation with the Philadelphia Boys Choir, he joined many a local band
which afforded him the opportunity to write songs, gig around town and
strengthen his chops, center stage.
Doing so, Rodney's music provided him the
opportunity to get close to his own truth. As a life long student of his craft,
Rodney found "creating music to be the means by which I've been able to
express what's happening around me". Rodney says "It makes me feel as
though I'm fully in touch with the people in my life and the places I've been".
Sighting Stevie and Donny Hathaway among his many inspi-
Rodney Mannsfield
rations, Rodney describes his music as "life's
songs fromthe heart". His music speaks of the "joy of love, loss, adoration
and all that fits in between". Whether crafting new compositions or covering
neo-soul, his voice is rich and robust, and his delivery heartfelt.
Rodney has collaorted with producer Michael
J. Powell (of Anita Baker fame) and garnered the "Best Male Newcomer" honor
from the British music magazine "Blues and Soul". When asked to share a
highlight from his musical past, he ponders for a moment and then offers,
"after one of my shows, a woman came up to me and said 'this was the first
time I went to a concert and felt really safe'. Her words assured me that I
was doing exactly what I was put here to do".
Currently based in Huntingdon Valley, PA
Rodney is focused on the task at hand...crafting quality music. In his own
words he adds, "when you come off stage or out of the studio, life's
realities are there waiting for you. My music helps me to relate what I've
learned".
